W-2 vs 1099

Employees are also known as W-2 are company employees and W-2 is form which they will get on the end of the year. Their identification is SSN.
Contractors are also known as 1099 are contractors. Their identification is FEIN (same as companies) and they got form 1099 on the end of the year.

Not all earnings can be used by 1099s.
